About this Event:
Temple Sinai, in collaboration with The Greater Rochester Coalition for Immigration Justice (GRCIJ) will host a screening of After I Pick the Fruit at 4:00 pm on February 10th in conjunction with Writers and Books Annual Event, “If All of Rochester Read the Same Book.”
Luis Alberto Urrea’s Into the Beautiful North tells the fictional story a group of young people traveling to the USA from their home village in Mexico. Their journey offers a contrast to the journey of the 5 women who crossed into the USA from Mexico and Haiti in the award winning documentary film, After I Pick the Fruit. Following the screening, refreshments will be offered by Wayne County’s Las Mujeres Divanas. At 6 PM there will be an opportunity to participate in conversations on the theme of “Contrasting Journeys: Into the Beautiful North and After I Pick the Fruit.” A small donation for the authentic Mexican refreshments will be used to support workshops for immigration education. There is no charge for the film screening.
